The Toronto Maple Leafs continue their road trip tonight as they head west to take on the Winnipeg Jets out in Manitoba. Now, the Leafs are not playing well recently. They’ve dropped three straight games, and four of their last 5 after getting out to a 3-1 start this season. They will certainly try to stop the skid as they have one game at home before back to back contests on the road this weekend. However, it will be a tough task trying to take down the Jets at home.
Winnipeg is hot. Extremely hot. They have not lost yet this season. A perfect 8-0-0 start, needing overtime in just 3 of those wins to get the points. But can they keep it going against the Maple Leafs?
Look, the Jets are 2nd in the league in GF/G, scoring 4.5 per contest. But they are also 2nd in GA/G as well, allowing just 2 per game. Offensively and defensively, this team is firing on all cylinders. They show no signs of slowing down, and after three tough road wins, they will be ready to give their home fans a show. At home this season, after starting off with 2 overtime victories, the Jets dominated the Sharks and Penguins, beating them by a combined score of 14-6.
Will Toronto be able to hand Winnipeg their first loss of the season? Or will the Jets send the Leafs packing with an extra L in their bags?

Can Maple Leafs Find A Win In Winnipeg?
We’ve got two teams trending in different directions, and we’ve got plenty of narratives surrounding this contest as well.
The Maple Leafs started off scorching hot, and now have come tumbling back down to Earth. They’ve lost 3 straight, 4 of their L5, and they desperately need a win following their road loss to Boston on Saturday. However, they face the Jets who are 8-0-0, and have yet to be beaten. They look incredible on both sides of the ice, but surely they will show some signs of regression soon, right?
If anyone can take down the Jets, it’s Toronto. Both of these teams shoot the puck roughly 32 times per game, while only allowing their opponent to muster up 29 or so. However there has been a big difference in goaltending and goalies faced.
Despite shooting and allowing the same number of shots per contest, Winnipeg is 2nd in both goals for and goals against. As a team, Toronto is 24th and 13th in those stat categories. They aren’t scoring very often and have been outscored 15-6 in their last 3 games. However tonight I think their offense finally clicks like they were early in the season and is able to produce some chances. I lean with the home team to find a way to win, mainly because of their goaltender, and I’ll be betting a player prop that goes along with that narrative.
Toronto Maple Leafs Vs Winnipeg Jets Best Bets
Maple Leafs Vs Jets Prediction: Jets Win 3-1 (+1800)
Best Bets: Connor Hellebuyck Over 27.5 Saves (-122)
Now, obviously Hellebuyck does not clear this number on average. He’s only cleared this number in 2/6 starts this year, ending on 26 and 27 saves as well. The issue has always been him not seeing enough shots, not his goaltending. Hellebuyck has a .940 SV% this season, allowing just over 1.5 goals per game. While he has been shakier recently, so has the Jets defense, which I think translates into more shots for the Maple Leafs, and thus more save opportunities for Hellebuyck.
If the Maple Leafs produce 30+ shots, I think Hellebuyck will be able to clear this line, as I only see him allowing 2, maybe 3 goals in this matchup. In their last 4 games, Winnipeg has allowed 33 shots on goal per game, meaning Hellebuyck would certainly see the chances to clear this number for us.
The Jets have allowed 30+ shots this year to the Oilers, Penguins, and Kraken, allowing 29 to the Blues and Flames as well. Aside from Edmonton, Toronto’s offense is certainly better than those other opponents, which makes me very confident in the Maple Leafs being able to produce enough shots to get Hellebuyck over this number. Strap in for a sweat, because it’s going to be close. But ultimately, I see the Jets defense being tested tonight, but I like the man between the posts to rise to the occasion tonight.
